Missouri is known not only for its beautiful and well developed cities but also for its rich and enduring history. For many years, this state has dedicatedly made an effort to preserve historical sites---- churches, museums, gardens, theaters, and bridges---- all these relics are protected to teach the future generation how to retrace and respect the past.

In every corner of Missouri, you will behold exciting and precious historical facts and attractions. From the adventurous journey of the pioneers up to the thrilling life of Jesse James, the past will surely come alive with all these exciting tours. Whether you are an adult or a kid, you will soon discover that history can be both a learning and an enjoyable experience!

Shall we begin?

Our first stop is at the city of St. Louis. Although this metropolitan area looks nothing close to historic, you'll be amazed to find out that it is abundant with fascinating things to behold.

The Gateway Arch is one of the first points you will see in this city. It is constructed as a part of the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial. At day time, this beautiful arch soars proudly in the skyline of Missouri; and during the evening, you can't help but fall in love with this elegant and magnificent structure.

This majestic arch stands at 630 feet; and is recognized as the world's tallest monument. The good part however, is that you can go up near its top via the observation area! In there you can see a picturesque view of the Mississippi River.

Just near the Gateway Arch, you will see the Old Courthouse. The exterior of this historical site is nothing less than exquisite. The three-story cupola dome as well as the east and west wings make a fine example of Greek revival architecture.

The Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis is another site to behold. Also referred to as the New Cathedral, this church was constructed sometime during the 20th century. It was beautifully patterned in Romanesque and Byzantine styles. Inside it, you will see a collection of splendid mosaic giving life and color to this structure's interior.

Kansas City, Missouri is also brimming with wonderful historical sights. One of them is the Liberty Memorial. This monument is declared as a national historic landmark. It is also the official World War I museum in the United States. This structure features a limestone exterior. Its foundation on the other hand, was built using sawed granite. At night time, this resplendent monument illuminates the city with a soft glow of orange light.

The Laugh-O-Gram Studio will prove to be a hit for the kids. This studio played an important part in the early years of the animation industry. In fact, it was in this same studio where Walt Disney created the character of Mickey Mouse. For several years, the studio has fallen into rubbles; however, efforts are now being made to restore and rebuild this historic spot.

These are just some of the many landmarks that you can visit in Missouri. The other cities of this state are also bursting with historical places that are just waiting to be unraveled!
